Hello! First of all I apologize for writing in English but my Dutch is not good enough yet to write something this complex. I am 33 years old and have been trying to conceive for over two and half years now, with a six month break after the first 6 months of trying. As of now, I have been trying for 15 cycles in a row, for a total of 21 cycles. I have been charting and timing intercourse to ovulation the whole time. After trying for a total of 13 cycles with no success (tried for 6 cycles, break for 6 cycles and then tried 7 more cycles) I went to the huisarts and was told I had to try for 12 months in a row before they would refer me to a specialist or run any tests. So I tried for 13 months, even took some supplements to help things along (and did notice an improvement in my cycle) and again, no success. I even used progesterone cream for two cycles, as prescribed by an alternative doctor I go to because he said my progesterone seems a little low but so far that has not worked. Went back to the huisarts and they wanted to first order a semen analysis for my husband. The results came back and we were told he was normal and I got a referral to a specialist. However, the specialist has a 2 month wait, so meanwhile I would like to do whatever I can to increase my chances of getting pregnant naturally. Recently I have read the book Taking Charge of your Fertility and I read that some men have a normal sperm count that is on the low end of normal and that in that case it would be advisable to try less frequentely, such as every 48 hours, to increase the chances of success. Trying everyday could put the sperm count below the minimum and could prevent you from getting pregnant. So I asked for a copy of the semen analysis results in hopes I could see if that applied to my husband. But I am having trouble understanding the results as they are a bit different than what I could find in English. I am also having trouble finding out what would be an optimal value. Whether being 16 above the 20 minimum limit is considered really good or just barely acceptable. So I am posting this to see if anyone could help me interpret the results. I can understand a lot of what I read in dutch and nearly everything with the help of a dictionary, so there's no need to reply in English. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me as I am feeling very discouraged after trying for so long and not being taken seriously by the huisarts.
The VCM (number of good swimming cells in the whole ejaculate) is indeed very high. So that is good. The only thing that concerns me is the note at the bottom. "Wat afwijkende DIFF normofertiel". But I'm not sure what is means. Maybe it's the diff above that states that 6% is normal and that there are various abnormalities. So maybe most of the cells don't have the correct shape, but I'm not completely sure
